The Unutterable Phrase

It’s All In Your Mind

June 21, 2009 · 3 Comments

I’ve started a new book project. It’s one that I’ve been wanting to tackle for quite some time. It combines my two greatest passions in life: parenting and optimistic thinking skills.

The working title of the book is It’s All In Your Mind: The life-changing power of optimistic thinking skills. As a mum to three little guys, I can’t begin to tell you how powerful optimistic thinking skills have been in my own life. I’m honestly not sure I would have survived the early days of parenting if I didn’t already have experience using these simple steps to analyse, challenge and replace my negative thought patterns with more optimistic ones. I really want to share my experiences and knowledge with other mums in the hope that they too can not only survive parenting, but thrive.

I’ve been working on a book proposal and I have a publisher in mind. They are a very small, boutique publisher who have partnered with another small business that deals with everything ‘mum’ related, to produce useful, meaningful and well-written material for the modern mum. I think my book would sit alongside their other titles nicely.

To make my book as relevant as possible, I have developed a short survey for mums to complete. Whether you have a newborn baby or are a grandmother, I’d really appreciate it if you could take 5 minutes to take the survey. It really will provide me with invaluable information for my book.

You can find the “Experiences of the first 6 months of motherhood” survey here.  Please spread the word and get as many mums as you know to pay a visit to the site. You’ll be doing new mums a real service.

Thank you in advance!

OK, Karen – I just took your test and it’s great for first timers info. Hope you get some great data for your book. In my case it seems; some of those ‘panic’ type feelings only surfaced after my second child was born. THEN – I would have to answer yes – all the time – on many more of your questions! Trying to keep up with more than one with different schedules really challenged my ability to cope. Eventually i figured out a system with the help of a great pediatrician and great advice from close relatives. By the time i had twins; they weren’t much more work. Just a little beginning confusion – we finally used a permanent marker pen to dot one’s earlobe! Oh – and the laundry pile was up to the heavens! But we all survived beautifully, and they are a great joy today as well-adjusted adults! I must have not marked their psyche too much. :) LOL Talula

Talula, thanks for taking my survey. And yes, I didn’t really stop and think that it might not be just a first time mum thing…although I suspect that my target audience will still be first time mums. I love the dot on the earlobe – made me laugh!! My boys have wrist bands. I panic if they ever accidentally slip off, although JJ has an indent on the back of one ear if I get really stuck!! I’m sure you were an amazing mum. I’ve got a loooooong way to go in this parenting journey yet, but I think I might have something to offer mums with little ones for now.

How’s this for another giggle – occasionally the dot would wear off and I would try to balance them each in my hands to feel their weight to guess which was which!!! Of course, after about 6 months’ we could begin to tell them apart most of the time by facial expressions & personality. But we kept the dot till they were about two years old! And we began to ‘dot’ Baby A’s shoes, too: becasue they were a half size bigger and the dot made it faster to get them dressed. And it was a little weird sometimes as they would run by me through the house – and I couldn’t tell who was who when their backs were to me. I swear they switched personalities & behaviors several times when they were under six years old! Drove me quite nuts for a while. But hey, anybody with more than one child is naturally a little crazy, right?? And with multiples; well we are plumb certifiable! Have a great week, Talula.
